Frequently Asked Questions

Now that you have a fair idea about FabVocab, you could be buzzing with some questions. See if they are already answered below. If not, click here to post your query and I will call you soon!

Q. My child does not fit in the age group of 9 to 14 years. Can I still enrol him for FabVocab?
A. Children start picking up a language from a very young age. They might begin with basic vocabulary such as fruits, vegetables, animals, numbers and then graduate to poems and short sentences. When they are in Class 1 they begin understanding the building blocks of a language - its grammar. I believe that by Class 3, their foundation of grammar is ready. This base is very important because it is on this base that a higher level of vocabulary will be constructed. Otherwise, random words will be known but will have a lesser chance of becoming integrated. In other words, children lesser than 9 years will not benefit as much.

9 to 14 years is the best time to expose children to a large database of words, to prepare them for the more complex concepts of language such as figures of speech and ultimately critical appreciation of literary works.

Of course, people learn new words even after the age of 14, and in that sense, anyone above 14 will also benefit from the program. If enough people seem eager to take the course, then I might consider catering to them too.

Q. What is the fee structure like?
A. Initially, parents can enrol kids for a duration of 3 months (a quarter of a year). This is to encourage them to try out this unique concept. Later on, however, parents happy with the course are expected to commit for next 3 quarters to help children meet their goal of learning at least 1800 new words for the academic year.

FabVocab is intended to be an on-going program. It is recommended that if the children are enjoying the course, parents let them continue for the following years too. Investing time in building a strong vocabulary will prove to be an invaluable asset as children grow into young adults.

The fee for every quarter is Rs.3,000/-

Q. How demanding will these classes be? I don't want to add to my child's homework and fatigue!
A. The curriculum of FabVocab is designed such that more than 90% of their work will be completed in class itself in a stimulating and positively challenging framework. The homework given will be negligible and exciting in nature. Children will not complain. There are greater chances of the children returning home more energised and excited :)

Q. What kind of time commitment is expected from parents and children?
A. The classes will generally be held twice a week, each class lasting an hour. Classes will not be held during school vacations, school exams and school holidays. However, it is the Coach's responsibility to ensure that the intended portion for the year is complete. Extra classes may be taken if convenient to all.

Q. How will I know how well my child is doing?
A. Monthly feedback will be sent to parents via email and/or SMS. Quarterly meetings will be held to discuss the child's progress. Apart from that, the Coach can always be contacted if need be. Performance on class worksheets and a frank conversation with your child can also be good sources to find out whether he is enjoying and benefitting or not.

Given enough time in the program, one can also start expecting performance at school to improve. Encouraging feedback and acknowledgement from school teachers will be the ultimate proof of the program's usefulness.

Q. You have mentioned 'school' often. Is your program related to the school syllabus?
A. Not at all. However, direct benefits will be seen in school performance as students start applying their newly acquired knowledge in different contexts. Also the program will run parallel to school schedules as that is most convenient to parents.

Q. Aren't the fees too much?
A. Take a look at the multiple benefits this program has. A thousand bucks are spent in a jiffy. But if you choose to invest the same amount each month into your child's growth, you will reap incredible returns on maturity.

Q.  Will all children benefit equally from this program?
A. FabVocab will work wonders for children whose Grammar base is already decent and who take keen interest in learning new words (yes, there are such kids!). Those who are interested, but slightly weaker will be given a good push. Over time, they should be able to show improvement. But those kids who are simply not interested despite the fun nature of the class will not benefit much.

There are two more groups for whom this program will not be of much use:
- Children who are already blessed with enough exposure through parents who speak impeccable English themselves, enough interactions with other family members in the language, a healthy reading culture, keenness to learn, and great teachers at school. These kids might already be better off, and will hopefully not require a special boost.

- Children who are very poor in English. These will not be able to cope in class (the medium of instruction at FabVocab is strictly English!), will lag behind and eventually feel demotivated. Such children will first need to work on the basics - the Grammar.

Q. When exactly will the classes begin?
A. Enrolments will close on April 7. Classes will start from April 8. The venue is:

M.H.D.C. Saraswati Bal Mandir,
Behind Janakpuri East Metro Station,
Near Amar Leela Hospital,
